FOCAL Project – Collaboration Guidelines
About FOCAL
FOCAL (Free and Open-source Creative Art Library) is a project under the FOSSEE initiative, IIT Bombay, which promotes the use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) for graphics, animation, and creative design education.
We collaborate with colleges, universities, and institutions across India to conduct workshops, training sessions, and other outreach events related to FOSS tools such as Blender, Synfig Studio, GIMP, Inkscape, Scribus, and more.
Objective of Collaboration
The collaboration aims to:
- Promote awareness and practical training in Free and Open Source creative software.
- Build capacity among students and faculty in open-source-based digital art and animation.
- Encourage participation in national-level creative challenges such as ANIMATE, FOSSEE Internship and Fellowship, and other FOCAL & FOSSEE events.
- Facilitate long-term partnerships for FOSS adoption in academic curricula.
Mode of Collaboration
FOCAL supports both:
- Offline (On-Campus) Workshops and Training Sessions
- Online (Virtual) Workshops and Webinars
Roles and Responsibilities
FOCAL (FOSSEE, IIT Bombay) will provide:
- Resource Person(s) for conducting sessions.
- Workshop Content & Learning Materials (presentations, tutorials, assignments, etc.).
- Workshop Poster and Social Media Templates for promotion.
- E-certificates for participants and coordinators (if applicable).
- Official Acknowledgement Letter confirming collaboration.
Host Institute / College will provide:
- Local coordination and appoint a faculty coordinator.
- Venue, infrastructure, and technical setup (projector, computer lab, internet, etc.) for offline events.
- Publicity and participant registration within the institution.
- List of participants and feedback after the event.
- Local logistics (if applicable) for FOCAL representatives.
Process of Collaboration
- The interested college/institution fills the FOCAL Collaboration Request Form.
- The proposal is reviewed by the FOCAL team at IIT Bombay.
- On approval, both parties finalize:
- Dates and duration of the event
- Resource person(s)
- Participant details and logistics
- Dates and duration of the event
- A formal Collaboration Confirmation Email/Letter is sent from FOSSEE(FOCAL).
- Event is conducted jointly under the banner of FOCAL – FOSSEE, IIT Bombay.
